Still no screens on any windows. Shutters to keep out the heat. Meat in the stores is mostly preserved meat.the chicken looks like an old roaster or hen. We 'bed seen very little meat on the menus. In the countryside I see very few animals grazing, sheep and lots of balked hay. Three horses once!
Orvieto has lots of shops, it attracts not only the cruise tours, but German and Italian tourists. Up scale shops, not just the tacky souvenir shops. The local people are different. Older women walking in the evening are taller women, dresses in straight skirts, blouses, with a sweater. Usually taller. Tourists cram the center around the church from tour groups, but then they are gone. Famous for their pottery, a lot more real craftsmanship for sale. The town we were in yesterday, that took all the walking, had tourist stuff at the parking lot , and across the walkway to the fortress and that was it. A few local restaurants, local stores. Seemed like a poorer area. Did not work at flowers to pretty the place up. Did have what we thought was an ice skating rink in the square for winter time. Completely different atmosphere.
