Friday 4th, Vatican

Took the subway this morning at around 6am. I put us immediately on the wrong train, but figured it out with the help of a non English speaking woman. Got of at the first stop switched sides if the track by going up to the street and down the stairs. Back at the station realized we had been on the wrong side of the tracks, literally. Went down below the level Of the other train, and went 6 stops to the stop near the Vatican. There we meet up with our Through Eternity guide. We had a 7:30 entry, for a 5 hour tours. You would not believe how many people there were by the last two hours, all trying to Getz through 36inch doors! Had there been anything happen we would have been trampled to death! I was ready to leave after four hours. Found our way out and found a lunch spot. When we left, it was pouring. Poncho and umbrella sales people were every where, thank goodness so we got an umbrella to get us to the metro station.
Could not take pictures of St. Peter's, but Jerry took these. One is the pretty flower stand where we meet our guide. One is of the fountain as we came out. The ceiling shot does not do the hall justice. Each area on the ceiling was framed in gold, with a painting in each. Many cool pictures, and statues. The hallway, stairs is the entry that all presidents and important people used to see the Pope. The Swiss guards are in one, and the last picture is yellow, as there is glass protecting it. It is Madona with the dead Christ on her lap, done by Micheangelo in his early twenties.
